INTERVIEW: MCR SCENEWIPE

The Manchester Scenewipe boys have had a lot to do with Fuel over the years. We decided to ask them some questions. Here’s what they said.

Hello. Who are you? What the hell do you do? And what has it got to do with Fuel?

Oh hi there, we’re Manchester Scenewipe, what of it? We are a music website, a production company, a gig promoter and absolute children. Fuel is our spiritual home and where we put on our monthly live night. We’ve also filmed some acoustic sessions there, get over yourself.

OK, calm down. A question for Sam: What is your favourite memory from your time working in the kitchen at Fuel? We know you loved it. My favourite memory of my slave era at Fuel was either the time it got so busy that I had to go and cry emotionless tears on the fire escape or when we introduced the now defunct ‘sweast’; a tortilla wrap stuffed with every dessert on the menu, lovingly garnished with chocolate sauce and crushed maltesers. If someone ordered one, I would personally deliver it to the table, fanfare (courtesy of spotify) blaring. On arrival I would stoop on one knee and place the monstrosity in front of their horrified face. Totally embarrassing for the customer, even more embarrassing for me.

Them were the days. Right, what makes Fuel a good place for MCR Scenewipe to put on live gigs?

Fuel is the ultimate arena for our live nights. It’s the right size for packed out, intimate shows, the sound is good, the people are lovely and the atmosphere is amazing. And it’s free to hire. Ba-boom.

Ah, that’s nice. What have been your live gig highlights at Fuel?

There’ve been loads of highlights from the last year, at the top is probably our Ghost Outfit/Brown Brogues double header. The room was absolutely rammed, the bands were incredible and we even got Fuel an official noise complaint from environmental health (why yes you did, thanks for that). Brown Brogues broke my fridge door later though so ups and downs on that one.

What does the future hold for Manchester Scnewipe?

Manchester Scenewipe’s future is long and prosperous. We are welcoming new writers to the fold, filming bigger and better live sessions with some amazing bands and taking our gig promotion to the next level. There’s more of our much loved mix tapes to come too. Keep ‘em peeled if you can be bothered.
